Abstract

This study aims to verify the view of the waste pickers on the closure of the Jockey’s dump in today’s context of sorting recyclables in Distrito Federal through interviews with the Construir cooperative collectors who formerly worked at the Estrutural’s dump and passed through the transition process. By applying the interviews to this group of waster pickers, we were able to observe that the working conditions at the current Waste Recovery Facility have increased their quality of life, since today they have less risk of accidents at work summed up with a good structure and Equipment of Individual Protection, but, despite this, the pickers are dissatisfied with the current income they get from the sorting activities, which shows us that there are still measures to be taken to increase the value of the pickers’ work and positive Market inclusion, seeking the social inclusion of these workers along with increments in the waste recycling aiming at even lower pressure on the environment with a reduction of the landfilled residues.
