EVALUATION OF THE INFLUENCE OF DESIGN IN THE DISASSEMBLY OF LED BULB TYPE LAMPS FOR POSTERIOR RECYCLING

Abstract

LED lamps and luminaires are classified as mandatory reverse logistics waste by the 2010 National Solid Waste Policy, as they are electronics products, due to the need for a printed circuit board (PCI) for their operation. In addition, they present value-added materials, especially LEDs that are composed of critical and valuable metals. However, the disassembly and recycling of this type of waste is a challenge, as it presents a variety of materials mixed in its composition. In addition, the design of electronic products in general and, consequently, LED lamps, does not facilitate the reverse logistics process. The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of the design of LED bulbs in the disassembly of this product at the end of its useful life. For this, 13 LED lamps from 8 different brands were cataloged and disassembled, where the way in which disassembly took place, the tools used, as well as the destinations for each part of the lamp were evaluated. Finally, it can be seen that in some lamps there are more efficient disassembly technologies than in others and it can be suggested the adoption of a standard assembly where systems by threads and screws would be the most indicated to guarantee the best agility of the process of disassembly and reuse and / or recycling of most parts.
