Abstract

In this article, the determination of the filtering medium for the treatment of textile effluent was evaluated by means of solid-liquid vacuum filtration under pressure and a constant inlet volume of 200 mmHg and 500 ml. Nine polyester, polypropylene and polyamide nonwoven filters with different weights and permeabilities were used. For the evaluation of the filter media, three criteria were analyzed, namely filtration rate, total solids and quality of the filtrate. The practices were carried out at the Environmental Processes Laboratory at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul. It was observed that there is an influence of the grammage in the analysis of total solids, the low permeability and the filtration time in the analysis of the filtration rate and significant changes in the pH, turbidity, color and absorbance indicators of the filtrate. Among the studied filters, PE 5 presented the best results in the filtration process.
