Abstract

Reducing gas emissions and increasing the useful life of landfills are just two of the many benefits that glass recycling provides. But, despite these and many other benefits being widely recognized by the population as a whole, Brazilians, in general, still have difficulty seeing recycling as an activity with potential for profitability. Obviously, to make a profit in this economic activity, planning is necessary, including the most appropriate location to install the industrial plant. In this context, this paper aims to determine the optimal location of industrial plants that use recycled glass as a raw material and, for that purpose, an optimization model is applied via the objective function for a case study in Brasília/DF and its surroundings. Based on the resolution of the optimization problem, the location that causes the lowest cost per ton of raw material is determined among the five proposed locations.
