POST-CONSUMPTION PLASTIC WASTE: IDENTIFICATION, SYMBOLOGY AND RECYCLABILITY IN RECYCLING COOPERATIVES

This work aims to identify what types and symbols of post-consumer plastic waste arrive through a selective collection in sorting units in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre / RS, and which are classified as waste due to the impossibility of selling through the supply chain. recyclable materials. To this end, a matrix of polymeric materials was created according to NBR 13.230: 2008, with their respective symbols and descriptions, then sent for evaluation of four recyclable material sorting units. The results showed that the materials identified with 4 (LDPE / PEBL), 5 (PP), 6 (PS) and 7 (OTHERS), have low commercial value, some type of commercial restriction or even considered to be waste, which means to state that, even if they are sent to the sorting units, have the identification of the recyclable symbology, result in waste and are sent to landfills.
