CARACTERIZAÇÃO DOS RESÍDUOS QUÍMICOS GERADOS NOS LABORATÓRIOS DO INSTITUTO DE QUÍMICA DA UFF EM NITERÓI-RJ
Keywords:
Chemical waste; Laboratory wastes; Characterization of chemical residues.Abstract
This work aims to study the production of chemical residues in laboratories linked to the Institute of Chemistry of the Federal Fluminense University, in Niterói-RJ (IQ-UFF), seeking to measure their quantity and characteristics. The data collection was carried out through documentary research, with a view to documents, such as invoices, Waste Transport Manifest and service contracts, in addition to internal control spreadsheets used by the IQ-UFF Directorate. The survey on the total mass of waste collected was carried out for the period from January 2013 to July 2019. For the characterization of the waste generated, the time span of the survey was from July 2018 to June 2019. The survey showed that, From 2013 to July 2019, a total of more than 20 tons of chemical waste were collected, with 2017 being the year with the highest amount of waste collected (more than 6 tons) and 2018 the year with the least amount of waste collected (slightly more). 1 ton). When analyzing the residues generated in the laboratories between July 2018 and June 2019, a very significant presence of solvents and halogenated solutions was observed (39%). Among the residues that do not contain halogens, the presence of organic compounds (37.5%) prevailed over inorganic compounds (10.9%). Also noteworthy is the presence of residues containing heavy metals (9.9%), more specifically mercury and its salts (0.5%). Most of the mass of waste accumulated in this period came from research laboratories (92.8%), while only 7.2% from laboratories of practical classes.
