Selective collection is one of the main tools of the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS), promoting the recovery of materials through recycling, reducing the volume of waste sent to landfills. Combined with selective collection, environmental education practices are extremely important to raise awareness and inform the population. Residential condominiums have characteristics of waste generation similar to that of municipalities, however, the management of this waste is facilitated, due to the controlled environment and housing configurations. With this, the objective of the work was to study the profile of the residents of a residential condominium in the municipality of Santa Maria - RS, and to structure a selective collection plan and environmental education activities geared to the residents' reality. Semi-structured questionnaires were applied with the residents, in order to diagnose the consumption pattern and population characteristics. Through on-the-spot observations, data was collected about the current solid waste management mechanism and the structure available for this. The results showed that the place has 3.3 inhabitants per residence, on average, with a high level of education and a high average monthly income.
The results showed that the place has 3.3 inhabitants per residence, on average, that 75% of the residences have an income above 10 minimum wages and that 60% of the responsible for the houses have complete postgraduate degrees. The development of the study made it possible, through the knowledge of residents and the generation of waste, to propose alternatives for the implementation of selective collection and the production of environmental education actions.
